All of a sudden, weed is on my radar. Seems like a strange time for me to grow my marijuana awareness, as I enter my 40s…in the suburbs…with two kids…but everywhere I turn, there’s hemp this, CBD that. Even my favorite cooking magazine is touting the benefits of CBD lately, and telling me exactly which cannabis is right for me. As more and more states go legal, I think the wine-lover in me is fascinated by the idea of being at the end of prohibition - it’s like my 1933 Gatsby-esque fantasy playing out in real-time! Plus I’ve found that a few drops of CBD (which is already legal everywhere) before bed really does help me turn off my brain and have a much-needed good night’s sleep. For all these reasons, I’ve found myself photographing cannabis lately, the way I used to photograph calm, pretty stylized scenes of bath salts, teas, and face lotion. I’m particularly interested at the intersection of cannabis and wellness, self-care and femininity.
